How do i establish an internet connection from my modem?

Ok heres the story...I already have an ISP in my home aka Clear. there are 2 ps3 and a laptop running off of it wirelessly. The cable i actually have in my house is Time Warner. I purchased it before clear came into the picture. I also had the cable internet service but became too much so i decided to purchase Clear thinking i could just cancel the time warner cable internet...but for complications i couldnt. that was about a year ago. now when trying to play the ps3s they seem to have horrible connection and i am looking to setup the other cable modem from the time warner days...thing is i plugged it up, wired my cable wire from the wall and it came on and we can pick up the wireless connection...yet cannot browse the internet nor can the ps3 get an internet connection. the cable light on it continues to flash...I have a Netgear CG814WG. Is there something im missing? does the ethernet cable have to be plugged into a computer? because even then the internet doesnt work..but i can log into my modem...is there a way to fix this? and sorry for soo much info...
