How to punish my son for being too affectionate?

I am a loving mother and I deeply love all my children but my 8 year old son is getting way too clingy. He hugs me and tries to cuddle with me everyday and every night he will sleep in the bed with me and his dad. I limited him to one 10 second hug each day and eventually zero hugs as he needs to become independent and become a man. Every time he whines for attention like crying or saying his tummy hurts or trying to be affectionate after the first hug, I will punish him with no supper and he has to sleep outside (like on our porch with the cats) but when it is in the winter I will give him a blanket and the punishment is added days for every time he breaks this rule. I'm afraid that this just isn't working as he will still beg for me to hug him and kiss his booboos haha what a crybaby. I do not want a crybaby mamas boy! Has anyone else had this problem because I seem to be the only one and how do I deal with it?
